ROLE: DESIGNER, EDITOR
FOR: MILAN DESIGN WEEK x FUORISALONE.IT x NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY
STATUS: COMPLETED
The press release on Milan Design Week’s included the production of a sedicesimo-style booklet, which derives Un Sedicesimo, an Italian bimonthly magazine format that features a different artist’s work in each issue. The name translates to “one sixteenth,” which traditionally corresponds to the number of pages the artist creates in this project. In the same fashion as the original intent, this exercise gave complete creative freedom to design the booklet, conceived to be like a “gallery on paper.”
The organization of the trip divided all selected students in four groups of three, each acting as its own press entourage, tasked with touring all participating Milan districts, with most days dedicated with visiting all the Fuorisalone organized urban interventions and pop-ups. Salone del Mobile, the biggest furniture and design fair that started the concept of this week, was dedicated its own visiting day by all groups.
This group, conformed by Gabriela Palacios, Henry Schwabe, and Serena Li, opted for a design that speaks to the eclecticism of the event, and evaluated the installations and events during the week-long journey considering four aspects: accessibility and flows, brand and product identity, content and container relationship, and sustainability.

The purpose is to collect the experiences and share them both for the Northeastern community and the broader public to see the intricacies of the world’s biggest design event, bringing eyes to not only appreciate, but analyze and critique its cultural, social, and environmental impact.
Aided by our partnership with Fuorisalone, we were able to immerse ourselves in the tight-knit communities conformed by artists, leaders, and event organizers from Milan and beyond, gaining some valuable insight on the behind-the-scenes material, the conceptualization of the art, and their path to successful results, which brought in over 360,000 people from all over the world.
As an inaugural and successful effort, there was also a mission to encourage its continuation for the future. Along with the editorial production of the sedicesimo booklet, the groups created a promotional teaser video each, set in a mobile-friendly format for promoting social media sharing.
